7 Olympic Sponsors: Buy or Sell?

August 4, 2016

Much of the world's attention is going to shift toward to Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, tomorrow. More than 200 countries will participate in the 2016 Rio Olympics, which is the first Olympics to be held in South America. Opening ceremonies will kick off the two-week athletic competition Friday evening, and the first round of medals will be handed out on Saturday.

Of course, the Olympians aren't the only ones who have been preparing for this year's games. Partners, sponsors and supporters have been lending their help, products, services and financial support over the past couple years.

You've probably seen commercials from some of the big-name Olympic partners, like Coca-Cola (KO), McDonald's (MCD) and Visa (V). But there are several other large-cap, global companies that have been doing their part to ensure that 2016 Rio Olympic Games go off without a hitch.

So the question now is how many of these Olympic sponsors are good buys in light of this year's games?

According to Portfolio Grader, six of the seven big-name partners and sponsors are good buys; each receive a B-rating. But what's interesting is the most well-known sponsor of the Olympics, Visa, is actually a hold right now, with a C-rating.
